Walk around Nevada Celebrates 20 Years of promoting Health
For two decades, the Southern Nevada Health District’s Walk Around Nevada program has encouraged residents to embrace a healthier lifestyle. Launched in 2005, this free, interactive initiative marks its 20th anniversary, boasting over 12,000 participants. The program’s success has garnered national recognition, earning it the distinction of a Model Practice Program from the National association of County and City Health Officials.
Virtually Explore Nevada While Improving Your Health
The Walk Around Nevada program leverages technology to motivate participants. Accessible via GetHealthyClarkCounty.org and a mobile app, the web-based platform allows users to log their physical activity, whether it’s miles walked or steps taken. An activity conversion chart ensures that all forms of movement contribute to their virtual journey across the state.
Discover Nevada’s history and Healthy Habits
As participants progress through the virtual landscape, they unlock geographic milestones. These milestones reveal pop-up windows filled with past facts, destination stories, and practical tips for building healthy habits. This blend of education and motivation keeps users engaged and informed.
Reach the Finish Line and Earn Recognition
Those who complete the virtual 1,442-mile trek around Nevada are rewarded for their dedication. Participants are eligible for a free t-shirt and recognition in the Walk Around Nevada Hall of Fame, featured on the GetHealthyClarkCounty.org website. To date, approximately 300 individuals have each walked at least 1,442 miles, collectively logging over one million miles.
