Wake forest Men’s Soccer Announces 2025 Award Winners

Winston-Salem, NC – Wake Forest men’s Soccer recently‍ announced its annual award ⁢winners, recognizing outstanding contributions ​to the 2025 season. The honors‌ celebrated leadership, improvement, and exceptional⁢ performance on the ‌field.

Joel Torbic – ⁢Most​ Improved Player

Sophomore midfielder ⁢ Joel Torbic was named the program’s⁢ Most Improved Player. Torbic made 16 appearances, including two starts, and considerably increased his impact in the midfield rotation throughout the 2025 season. He more than doubled his playing time ‍from his ⁢freshman year, logging 538 minutes compared to 246 the previous year. Coaches ​noted his growth in composure, technical⁢ skill, and defensive duty, establishing⁣ him as a ‍valuable box-to-box option.

Cooper Flax – Most Valuable Player (MVP)

Senior midfielder Cooper Flax ⁤earned the title of Wake‌ Forest’s⁤ 2025 Most Valuable Player ⁣for the second consecutive year. Flax led the Demon‌ Deacons’ ‌offense wiht nine goals and seven assists, totaling 25 points in ⁤17 starts.⁣ He ranked among the ACC’s ​top⁣ ten players in⁢ all⁣ three⁣ offensive categories,finishing second in total points,third in goals,and sixth ⁣in assists.

Flax’s standout performances ‌included a hat trick and ⁤a career-high seven-point outing against Liberty‍ on September ‌22nd. Throughout his⁤ career, he has amassed 21 goals and‌ 17 assists, tying him for 18th on Wake Forest’s ⁤all-time scoring list with Geraint Davies (1986-89) and placing him 20th in career points with 59. His consistent ⁣play ⁤and⁣ leadership earned him First Team All-ACC⁣ honors.

Andres escribano – Walt Chyzowych Award

Senior ⁣ Andres Escribano received the Walt ⁤Chyzowych Award, ​the ⁣program’s most meaningful honour.​ A four-year starter with over 70 ⁢career matches played, Escribano logged 1,183 minutes across 16 starts in 2025, totaling ⁢over 5,255 career minutes. He ‍served ‍as‌ a vocal captain and a key mental presence on‌ the back line.

the‌ walt Chyzowych‌ Award recognizes players who embody ⁢the values of former Wake Forest⁤ head coach⁣ Walt Chyzowych, who led the Demon Deacons to their first ‍ACC title in 1989. Chyzowych also served​ as U.S. Soccer ⁣Federation Director of Coaching, ‌designing coaching licensure programs and directing national teams. Escribano’s‍ growth, ⁤character,⁢ professionalism, and commitment to his teammates‍ made him the⁢ clear choice for the award, reflecting ⁤the⁤ standard‌ Chyzowych⁤ established⁤ for ⁢Wake forest Soccer.
