Toulouse, France – A groundbreaking study at the Toulouse University Hospital is seeking volunteers to participate in a 60-day program aimed at slowing the biological aging process. The initiative, a collaboration between the CHU de Toulouse, Inserm, and the University of Toulouse, is part of a larger effort to demonstrate that healthy aging is achievable.
Researchers are actively recruiting autonomous individuals between the ages of 65 and 85 who are currently sedentary, experiencing a lack of strength, memory concerns, and are overweight. The intensive 60-day program will focus on physical activity, cognitive training, and psychological and nutritional support to address these early signs of frailty.
This research is driven by the conviction that it is possible to age while maintaining good health for as long as possible. The Toulouse team’s work is also competing for the prestigious American Foundation Xprize, which could provide $101 million (over 86.8 million euros) in funding.
professor Philippe de souto Barto, involved in developing aging monitoring curves for the project, highlighted the program’s ambition. “Our program is ambitious since it targets the slowdown in the biological process of aging,” he stated.”After 60 days, we already feel beneficial effects. Beyond their participation in research, volunteers will benefit; we give them a boost to help them integrate a routine of activity and hygiene of life in their daily lives.” He added, “These works must allow this generation of seniors and the following to age. The objective is to continue to do what you like until late in your life.”
The study is scheduled to commence in September at the Grave Hospital within the Toulouse University Hospital. Interested individuals can contact the research team at 05 61 77 79 91 or by emailing gerontologie.recherche@chu-toulouse.fr.
