Vitória Seeks Deal with Botafogo to Avoid Fine, Play Key Defender Lucas Halter
Salvador, Brazil – Vitória is in negotiations with botafogo to pay a R$1 million fine in order to field captain and defender Lucas Halter in this sunday’s match, according to journalist Venê Casagrande. The situation stems from a contract clause triggered by Halter’s performance, obligating Vitória to purchase him outright.
halter has already met the performance targets stipulated in his loan agreement, forcing the club to exercise its option to buy him for US$1.3 million (approximately R$6.9 million). Vitória president Fabio Mota is attempting to offset the fine by structuring the payment within the four installments already scheduled for the mandatory purchase. The first of these payments is due in April 2026.
The club hopes to dilute the R$1 million fine across those existing payments.
Vitória will be without several other players for Sunday’s game, including suspended defenders Camutanga and Edu (due to concussion protocol),as well as midfielders Baralhas and Dudu, who are also serving suspensions.
