UVA Strong Day Honors Late Players
Saturday’s matchup serves as the annual UVA Strong Day, a dedicated program theme honoring the late Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D’Sean Perry. Representatives from the Davis, Chandler, and Perry families will be in attendance, and special acknowledgements are scheduled as part of the gameday proceedings at Scott Stadium.
Monroe Mills Anchors the Offensive Line
Right tackle Monroe Mills has returned from a torn ACL that caused him to miss the entire 2025 season after arriving as a top transfer offensive lineman. Mills has recorded an overall grade of 86.1 from Pro Football Focus, marking the highest grade of any ACC offensive lineman and the second-highest of any FBS offensive tackle. He currently paces the team as a strong candidate for First Team All-ACC and All-American honors.
Daniel Sparks Earns National Punting Accolades
Punter Daniel Sparks continues his long tenure in Charlottesville after transferring ahead of the 2022 season. Sparks has compiled 11,095 career punting yards, the most among active NCAA punters. Following his performance against West Virginia, Sparks was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week on Tuesday.
Offensive Strategy Relies on Efficiency and Explosive Plays
Offensive coordinator Des Kitchings has seen his team maintain aggressive fourth-down tendencies. Virginia has notched seven fourth-down conversions this year, tying for third nationally, despite a dip in third-down success earlier in the season.
Quarterback Beau Pribula has driven an efficient offense centered on a powerful run game paired with deep shots, play-action, and trick plays. The Cavaliers rank 11th nationally in pass efficiency at 187.95, with Pribula completing 21 of his first 25 passes of the 2026 season.
Spreading the Ball and Managing Turnovers
Sixteen different Cavaliers have caught a pass this season, ranking second in the ACC behind Miami’s 18 pass catchers. The offense has maintained this distribution despite missing receiver Rico Flores Jr. for the first two games. Flores returned to limited action against West Virginia.
Ball security remains a focal point under Tony Elliott. Virginia is one of 15 teams nationally with no more than one turnover through its first three games and stands alongside Delaware as one of 27 FBS teams that have yet to lose a fumble.
Defensive Playmaking and the Road Ahead
Safety Brandyn Hillman stands out as the only player across all of college football with at least three interceptions and one forced fumble, while tying for second nationally in interceptions. Hillman played through a tooth injury against West Virginia after missing practice time earlier in the week.
Following the defeat to West Virginia, Virginia dropped out of the national rankings. With only one ranked opponent left on the regular-season schedule, the Cavaliers must rely on their overall record rather than strength of schedule to work their way back into the polls.
Saturday’s contest against Delaware represents the final non-conference test for Virginia before the team pivots into an eight-game ACC schedule. That grueling conference stretch begins with an October 3 road game at Florida State and concludes with the Commonwealth Clash in Blacksburg, Virginia.
