Virginia HBCUs on Lockdown Following Threat Reports
ETTRICK, VA – Several Virginia colleges adn universities initiated lockdowns and canceled classes Thursday morning following reports of potential threats.Both Virginia State University (VSU) and Hampton University, both Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), are affected.
Virginia State University announced an abrupt campus closure in an email to students and staff. “Due to a potential threat, Virginia State University is currently on lockdown,” the message read. “All students who are on campus should remain indoors, and those off campus should not come to campus at this time. All classes have been canceled, and all VSU employees are instructed to work remotely.” University officials stated they would provide further updates as information becomes available.Hampton University is also responding to a similar threat, though details remain scarce. While officials have not disclosed the nature of the potential danger, all non-essential activities, including classes and campus events, have been canceled for both Thursday and friday.
