VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A house fire in the Green run area of Virginia Beach on Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of two cats and meaningful damage to the property.
Firefighters responded to the scene in the 1800 block of Willow Creek Drive around 8:30 a.m. on January 17, 2026, according to a Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) press release. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from a single-family home.
The VBFD reported that the fire was contained to the living room. Firefighters rescued a resident from the home, who was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The two cats were unfortunately unable to be saved.
The cause of the fire is currently under examination by the VBFD fire Prevention bureau.preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical malfunction, but this has not been officially confirmed. WAVY-TV 10 reported that the home sustained significant smoke and water damage.
