Vimianzo Balcony Fall: 3 Children Injured in 4-Meter Drop
Three minors were injured Saturday afternoon in Vimianzo, A Coruña, after falling approximately four meters when a balcony railing gave way, according to reports from La Voz de Galicia and Galiciapress.
The incident occurred around 6:10 PM on Rúa Álvaro Cunqueiro. Emergency services were alerted by a bystander who witnessed the railing of a first-floor balcony collapse, resulting in the fall of the three young people. The ages of the injured range from 12 to 14 years traditional, La Voz de Galicia reported.
Emergency responders, including the Guardia Civil, local police, firefighters from Cee and volunteers from Protección Civil de Cee, were dispatched to the scene. Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 coordinated the medical response.
One of the injured minors was transported by helicopter to a hospital in A Coruña due to the severity of their injuries. A second was taken by ambulance to the Hospital de Cee. The third adolescent was taken to the medical center in Vimianzo, according to Galiciaconfidencial.com.
Authorities have indicated the three minors were at a birthday party when the incident occurred. Witnesses stated that one of the boys opened a window due to the heat and leaned against the railing, causing it to fail, and the other two followed.
As of late Saturday, the condition of the injured minors remained undisclosed. No further information has been released regarding the structural integrity of the building or the cause of the railing’s failure.
