Viktoria Plzeň Demote Prince Adu to B-Team After Disciplinary Breach

Viktoria Plzeň Demote Prince Adu to B-Team After Disciplinary Breach

October 15, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

FC Viktoria Plzeň travels to Budapest for its second UEFA Europa League match without forward Prince Adu, who has been demoted to the club’s reserve team following disciplinary infractions.

The disciplinary action leaves Plzeň short-handed in attack as the team attempts to recover from a 3-0 opening defeat to Royale Union SG in the league phase. Adu watched the weekend 3-0 win against Mladá Boleslav from the bench before the incident occurred.

Squad Changes and Injury Updates Ahead of Ferencváros

Head coach Radoslav Kováč addressed the roster changes during pre-match media availability, confirming Adu’s absence without detailing the underlying disciplinary breach. “He is not in the nomination, it’s the coach’s decision,” Kováč told reporters, as noted by Eurofotbal. “I don’t want to discuss it further, we traveled without him and we are focusing on the match.”

While Adu trains with the B-team—where insider reports suggest he could remain until the winter break—Plzeň welcomes back several key contributors. Assistant coach David Mikula highlighted the return of 34-year-old forward Matěj Vydra, who underwent knee surgery following an appearance at the end of August. Vydra rejoined the traveling party alongside goalkeeper Florian Wiegele, who recovered from a weekend illness, and defender Merchas Doski, who had withdrawn late from the weekend’s starting lineup during warm-ups.

Tactical Outlook at Groupama Arena

Plzeň faces a Ferencváros side that opened its league phase campaign with a 3-1 victory away against Celtic. The West Bohemians arrive in Budapest aiming to secure their first points in the tournament and improve upon last season’s European results against the same opponent, which included a 1-0 defeat and a 1-1 draw in the Hungarian capital.

Defender Adam Gabriel, experiencing his first European trip with Plzeň after previous continental appearances with Danish club FC Midtjylland, emphasized the squad’s focus. “We are definitely going to Budapest for a win,” Gabriel told Plzeňský deník prior to departure. “We have the quality to deal with such an opponent.”

The match kicks off at Groupama Arena, where Plzeň will also encounter familiar faces from the Czech league, including former Sparta Prague winger Veljko Birmančević and defender Cadu, both now representing Ferencváros.
