PORTLAND,Ore. – Portland State men’s basketball returns to Viking Pavilion for a two-game homestand next week, continuing a dominant run at “The Ship” where they’ve won 12 consecutive games. The Vikings will face Montana State on February 15th and Montana on February 17th.
Portland State’s success at home has been remarkable, boasting a 25-3 record at Viking Pavilion since the start of the 2023-24 season. Last season, PSU went 13-1 at home, leading wire-to-wire in nine games and trailing for just 67 minutes and 59 seconds out of a possible 560 minutes played. They’ve also won 12 straight Big Sky Conference home games dating back to the 2023-24 season.
Beyond the winning streak, the Vikings are showcasing an explosive offensive style. Through three games this season, Portland State has recorded 21 dunks, putting them on pace to potentially surpass last year’s school record of 123 dunks. Senior guard Jaylin Henderson and senior center Tre-Vaughn Minott have each recorded five dunks in a single game,tying the program record. Minott led the team last season with 44 dunks.
However, the team is working to refine it’s game, currently averaging 27.3 fouls and 16.0 turnovers per game – an increase from last season’s averages of 17.5 fouls and 12.7 turnovers. opponents have also been awarded 15 more free throw attempts per game, converting 11.3 more points from the line.
The Vikings’ February 19th game against Idaho has been selected for national television, airing on ESPNU at 6 p.m. This marks the first nationally-televised basketball game at Viking Pavilion since its opening in 2018, and only the second in program history since a 2009 contest against Boise State.
