Vigo Residents Demand Action on Neglected Doctor Corbal Alley
Vigo – Residents of Doctor Corbal alley are escalating demands for improvements to the narrow, 70-meter passage, citing persistent issues with traffic, cleanliness, and lighting. The Popular Party (PP) of Vigo is backing the residents, urging the local government to address what they call a long-ignored situation impacting quality of life in the Teis neighborhood.
for years, residents have requested traffic restrictions on the alley, which connects Doctor Corbal street with Sanjurjo Badía, due to its narrow width. Beyond traffic concerns, residents report inadequate cleaning – limited to manual sweeping despite repeated requests for water-based washing, particularly following drought-related restrictions in September – and insufficient lighting along the alley, which provides access to building entrances at numbers 3, 5, 7, and 11.The combination of these factors has created unsanitary conditions, with residents reporting issues related to public urination and resulting odors.
PP local president Luisa Sánchez, accompanied by councilor Fernando López Abeijón, visited the alley to hear resident concerns firsthand. “It makes no sense that such a narrow and reduced road dose not have a circulation limitation,” Sánchez stated. Residents have formally petitioned the Vigo council to include the L-shaped alley on the city center’s water-washing route, but were informed cleaning would remain limited to manual sweeping.
residents emphasize the alley’s secluded location, at the intersection of two heavily populated streets, exacerbates the sanitation problems. They hope renewed attention from the PP and local media will compel the city council to prioritize improvements to the alley’s infrastructure and cleanliness.
