Vietnamese Youth Retrace Ho Chi Minh’s Revolutionary Footsteps in Guangzhou
Forty-four young Vietnamese delegates from government departments and universities visited the former site of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League on Wenming Road in Guangzhou on August 25, as part of a multi-day study tour through Guangdong province designed to retrace the historic revolutionary footsteps of President Ho Chi Minh.
A Century-Old Historic Anchor in Guangzhou
The delegation’s itinerary centers on preserved municipal landmarks that trace a critical period of history. In 1925, he established the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League at the Wenming Road site, which consists of two three-story buildings. This location also hosted the first two political training sessions for Vietnamese youth, where prominent figures from the Communist Party of China—including Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, and Chen Yannian—taught sessions.
During the August 25 visit, the delegates toured the restored site, examining rooms, historical artifacts, and displays designed to recreate the atmosphere of the political training sessions held nearly a century ago. According to reporting by the South publication, Pham Thi Ha Phuong, a student at the Vietnam National University (VNU) University of Social Sciences and Humanities, noted that the site demonstrated how bilateral ties were forged through the sacrifices of earlier generations. Bui Thi Bich Ngoc, a lecturer at the same institution, expressed gratitude to local authorities for preserving and restoring these sites, noting that visiting the physical location deepened her academic understanding beyond textbook accounts.
Connecting Regional History with Modern Exchanges
The Guangdong leg of the 2026 Vietnam Youth Red Study Tour runs from August 24 to 28, bringing many participants to the region for the very first time. Reflecting on the municipal landscape, Nguyen Thi Hang, a delegate from Ho Chi Minh’s birthplace in Nghe An Province, observed that Guangzhou successfully balances modern urban development with a deeply preserved history. Delegates emphasized that the municipality serves as a vital bridge for ongoing cultural and economic dialogue between Vietnam and China.
Broadening the Historical Narrative Across China
According to reports from the Vietnam News Agency, the broader 2026 study camp featured a thematic report titled “Ho Chi Minh in China,” presented on August 23 in Nanning by Professor Ho Hien Trung, Director of the Museum of History and Archives of the Central Youth Union Movement. Professor Ho Hien Trung noted that during his 30 years of activity abroad from 1911 to 1941, Ho Chi Minh spent approximately 12 years in China, utilizing the territory to build political forces, train cadres, and maintain communication channels with domestic movements in Vietnam.
Participants highlighted the rigorous self-study methods and language proficiency demonstrated by Ho Chi Minh during his years abroad as a core takeaway for contemporary youth. Delegates such as Luong Ha Phuong, a specialist at the Party Committee Office of Co Ba commune in Cao Bang Province, and Nguyen Manh Thang, Secretary of the Thuong Tin Commune Youth Union in Hanoi, shared that direct exposure to these historic sites reinforces the responsibility of the younger generation to study, train, and contribute to national development while supporting bilateral friendship.
