“I’ve looked miserable for all these years because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy has always gone on the left,” Beckham explained, referencing the impact of posing for photographs. ”When I smile,I smile from the left, because if I smile from the right,I look unwell. So consequently I’m smiling on the inside, but no one ever sees it, so that’s why I look so moody.”
The docuseries also explores Beckham’s transition from pop star in the Spice Girls to motherhood after marrying David Beckham in 1997,and her subsequent journey into the fashion world. She described a period after the band’s breakup in 2001 where she felt like an attention-seeking “WAG” (Wives and Girlfriends) before finding her passion and confidence in fashion, particularly after moving to Spain in 2003 when David signed with Real Madrid.
The netflix release provides a rare glimpse into the challenges Beckham faced navigating fame, motherhood, and self-perception, offering a more nuanced understanding of the woman behind the brand.
