A public memorial service will be held August 30th to honor the late victor-Lévy Beaulieu,the celebrated Quebec writer and publisher who passed away on June 8th.
The service, scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges church in Montreal, will be directed by Dominic Champagne and hosted by actor Yves Desgagnés. While not a national funeral, organizers are describing the event as a ”popular regional funeral” reflecting beaulieu’s significant impact on quebec’s cultural landscape.
According to a press release from the organizing committee, the ceremony will feature excerpts from Beaulieu’s work, personal tributes, and musical performances.”These popular regional funerals are knitted around extracts from the work of VLB, testimonies and songs,” the release stated.
The event is expected to draw prominent figures from Quebec’s literary, artistic, and cultural communities, alongside family, friends, and residents of Trois-pistoles, Beaulieu’s hometown.”The ceremony will bring together the big names in our literature, comedians and actresses, singers and musicians, relatives, friends and accomplices, three-pistoles and all of Quebec, to salute the immense contribution of our national VLB to Quebec culture,” the organizing committee announced.
All 250 complimentary tickets offered to the public have been distributed.
Victor-Lévy Beaulieu was a prolific writer,known for his novels,essays,and contributions to Quebec publishing. His work often explored themes of identity, language, and the Quebec experience. he was a key figure in promoting Quebec literature and culture both within the province and internationally.
