Compton shooting Victim Identified as Aaron Hammer; Three Suspects in Custody
COMPTON, CA – The los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Aaron Hammer, 46, as the victim of a shooting in Compton last Tuesday, August 27th, that triggered a lengthy pursuit and gunfire directed at Los Angeles County deputies. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about gun violence in the area and the risks faced by law enforcement during investigations.
Hammer was shot at approximately 10:40 p.m. outside a liquor store in the 13000 block of S. long Beach Boulevard. Investigators responding to the scene quickly identified a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting, initiating a high-speed chase on the westbound 91 Freeway.
the pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle exited onto Central Avenue and stopped near 139th Street and Parmlee Avenue. Three suspects fled the vehicle on foot, entering a residential neighborhood.During the chase, deputies reported the suspects fired multiple times at their patrol car, with at least one bullet striking the vehicle. Fortunately, no deputies were injured.
After an hours-long search, deputies apprehended all three suspects near the 14100 block of S. Zamora Avenue, close to central Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue, just before 6 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators recovered three rifles from inside the suspect vehicle. The identities of the suspects have not yet been released.
