Vice President election Results 2025 LIVE: CP Radhakrishnan Wins, Felicitated by PM Modi and Amit Shah
New Delhi – CP Radhakrishnan has been declared the winner of the 2025 Vice President election. Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah met with Radhakrishnan and extended their felicitations.
The election saw a high turnout, with 766 out of 781 MPs casting their votes, representing a participation rate of approximately 98%. Polling concluded at 5:15 PM IST on September 9, 2025, with counting commencing at 6:00 PM IST. Fourteen MPs abstained from voting.
congress leader Jairam Ramesh reported an unprecedented 100% turnout among the Opposition’s 315 MPs, stating, “This is an unprecedented 100 per cent turnout.”
Other reactions included Samajwadi party Chief Akhilesh Yadav’s claim that “Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will reappear once VP polls conclude, everyone knows that BJP is a use-and-throw party.” CPI(M) MP John Brittas described the election as “an ideological and political battle” to protect the Indian Constitution and parliamentary democracy. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed hope for a positive outcome, noting Justice Reddy’s articulation of the country’s state to voters.Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur confidently predicted Radhakrishnan’s victory earlier in the day.
Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh also cast his vote today.
