Waldbreitbach, Germany – The VfL Waldbreitbach table tennis department celebrated a successful weekend, securing qualification for the Association Cup in both its first and second teams. The achievements came during the Cup Final 4 of the Koblenz/Neuwied district, according to club officials.
The second team, comprised of Jörg Weißenfels, Schmitz, and Niclas Schneider, advanced to the final after defeating Oberbieber with a score of 4-2. They continued their winning streak with a decisive 4-0 victory over TTC Erpel, earning them a spot in the Verbandspokal, scheduled for April 19th in Westerburg.
Simultaneously, the first team faced TTC Rheinbrohl, achieving a surprising and clear win. “Stefan Kunze, Timo Gladki and Christian Hertling surprisingly kept the game under control and were able to abandon the table as winners after four games,” reported Jörg Weißenfels, head of the table tennis department at VfL Waldbreitbach.
The first team continued their success against TTC Olympia Koblenz, winning 4-1 and claiming victory in the Adult B competition. This win also secured their qualification for the Verbandspokal, which will be held in Westerburg on April 18th.
Looking ahead, both teams face crucial home games on March 21st. The second team will compete for promotion starting at 3:00 PM, while the first team, recovering from earlier injury setbacks, will play at 6:00 PM. Weißenfels noted the first team is currently in a relegation battle within the district league, having experienced several close defeats. A further home game against Sinzig/Ehlingen is scheduled for April 25th at 5:00 PM, described by Weißenfels as a critical match.
