Vernon library hosts French open mic evening
The municipal library in Vernon is hosting an open mic evening dedicated to French-language song, inviting local singers, rappers, musicians, and poetry readers to perform for the public. Open mic CHANSON FRANCAISE – BiblioSNA, l’événement transforme la médiathèque de Vernon en scène musicale le temps d’une soirée pour partager des chansons et des compositions originales.
Performers Can Cover Artists or Songs of Resistance
Organizers welcome participants of all levels, whether they are beginners or performing just for pleasure. The evening is open to anyone who sings, raps, plays an instrument, or wants to test out a latest composition. Performers can cover tracks by renowned artists such as Édith Piaf, Céline Dion, or Stromae, or explore a theme focused on songs of resistance and protest. This thematic scope spans from historic French Resistance chants and the American civil rights anthem “Strange Fruit” to the Chilean “Nueva Canción”, 1980s punk refrains, and works by French engaged artists like Boris Vian, Léo Ferré, and Renaud. Participants may also share their own original creations, including texts that denounce issues or propose a better world. In addition to musicians and singers, readers and slammers are welcome to perform spoken-word texts and poems.
