Valerie Perrine Estate: Hollywood Legend’s Property Draws Interest
Valerie Perrine, the actress who earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in Bob Fosse’s 1974 film Lenny and portrayed Eve Teschmacher in Richard Donner’s Superman films, died Monday in Beverly Hills, California. She was 82.
The news was confirmed by her friend Stacey Souther, who announced Perrine’s passing on social media. Souther described Perrine as facing Parkinson’s disease “with incredible courage and compassion, never once complaining,” and a “true inspiration who lived life to the fullest.”
Perrine’s career began as a Las Vegas showgirl before transitioning to film and television. She received critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Honey Harlow, the wife of Lenny Bruce, in Lenny. The film garnered six Oscar nominations in total.
She became widely recognized for her role as Lex Luthor’s girlfriend and accomplice, Eve Teschmacher, in Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980). Her performance brought a unique blend of vulnerability and cunning to the character.
Beyond these iconic roles, Perrine appeared in films such as The Last American Hero (1973) and The Electric Horseman (1979), demonstrating her versatility as an actress. She also starred in the disco-themed film Can’t Stop the Music (1980), a film that would later turn into known for inspiring the Golden Raspberry Awards.
Perrine was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, a condition that progressively impacted her mobility and ability to communicate. Souther cared for Perrine for several years, documenting her struggle with the disease in the 2019 documentary, “Valerie.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to cover the costs of Perrine’s burial, as her finances were depleted after more than 15 years of battling Parkinson’s. Her final wish was to be interred at Forest Lawn’s Hollywood Hills Cemetery.
