Valentijn Driessen Reveals Hearing Aid Cost: ‘Expensive Shit’

Dutch football journalist Valentijn Driessen recently disclosed the cost of his hearing aids during a segment on the popular show Today inside, revealing they cost €300 each and acknowledging the important expense. The revelation came after a playful setup by presenter Wilfred Genee, who intentionally emitted a high-pitched beep to tease Driessen about his new devices.

Driessen, 62, openly discussed his decision to get hearing aids after struggling to follow conversations, specifically mentioning difficulty understanding fellow commentators Chris Woerts and Bas Nijhuis. He explained he opted for the €300 models, clarifying he also has more expensive, €5,000 alternatives but dismissed them, fearing potential complications. “That is Laaielroor [nonsense],” Driessen stated. “That is not about anything at all.” He added, “It is expensive shit.”

The conversation unfolded after Genee jokingly inquired if Driessen was experiencing issues with the devices, prompting Driessen to preemptively address potential teasing from colleagues René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen. Driessen confirmed the hearing aids are partially reimbursed by medical expenses and noted a family history of hearing loss, as his father also uses them. He had been testing the devices for “a month or two” to ensure he could understand conversations during appearances on the show.
