Val-d'Or Foreurs lead QMJHL standings with 10-1-1 record

Val-d’Or Foreurs lead QMJHL standings with 10-1-1 record

October 20, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

The Val-d’Or Foreurs have surged to the top of the QMJHL standings with a 10-1-1 record after 100 games played league-wide in the 2026-2027 season. Despite playing eight of their first 12 matches on the road, the Abitibi-based squad currently holds the league's top position after winning four straight games during a trip through the Maritimes.

Offensive Dominance in Val-d’Or

The success of the Foreurs is driven by the trio of Philippe Veilleux, Nathan Brisson, and Maxime Sauthier, who have combined for 26 of the team’s 52 goals. Sauthier, acquired from the Eagles for a second-round pick, has been particularly impactful, recording 13 goals in 12 games—a significant increase from his production of 13 goals in 64 games last season. Philippe Veilleux currently leads the league in scoring with a seven-point cushion and was recently named player of the week. Goaltenders Arseni Radkov and Vincent Moreau have also provided stability, posting a combined save percentage of .923 over 361 minutes of play each.

Contenders Across the League

While the Foreurs lead the overall rankings, other teams have established strong early-season performances:

  • Quebec City Ramparts: Holding an 8-2 record, the Remparts are led by 17-year-old James Scantlebury, who has registered 19 points in 10 games. Goaltender Patrick Déniger, a prospect for the 2027 NHL draft, has maintained a .920 save percentage and a 2.25 goals-against average. The Remparts face a critical test next weekend with a trip to Abitibi to face Val-d’Or.
  • Sherbrooke Phoenix: With a 7-1-2 record, the Phoenix remain competitive despite having no players in the league’s top 35 scorers. The team ranks third in offense and second in defense, supported by veteran goaltender Kyan Labbé.
  • Newfoundland Regiment: Sitting at the top of the Eastern Association with a 9-3-1 record, the Regiment recently completed a successful road trip through Quebec. Led by 17-year-old Benjamin Veitch, who has 17 points, the team benefits from a strong goaltending tandem in Louis-Antoine Denault and Antoine Proulx.

The full state of the forces in the QMJHL reflects a season where early predictions are beginning to materialize, setting the stage for upcoming divisional matchups.
