February 28, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A challenging field awaits the University of Washington men’s golf team this week as they compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate, hosted by UNLV at the Southern Highlands Golf Club. Play begins Sunday, March 1, and continues through Tuesday, March 3.

The 54-hole tournament features a highly competitive lineup, with all 15 participating teams ranked within the top 50 according to the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd. Among the competitors are No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Texas, No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 12 Illinois, No. 14 Oklahoma, No. 19 Modern Mexico, No. 25 San Diego State, No. 29 Texas A&M, No. 31 UCLA, No. 34 Georgia, No. 35 Washington, No. 46 South Carolina, and host UNLV.

Washington will tee off at 10:20 a.m. PT on Sunday from the 10th hole, paired with Georgia and South Carolina. The Southern Highlands Golf Club’s par-72 course will test players with its 7,510-yard layout.

The Huskies enter the tournament following a fourth-place finish at the Southwestern Invitational and a tied-for-ninth place result at the Amer Ari Invitational earlier this spring. Through six events this season, Jacob Goode leads the team with a scoring average of 71.5. He has recorded five rounds in the 60s and eight under par. Emil Herstad, a mid-year freshman, has quickly made an impact, posting a 70.2 scoring average with three rounds under par in his six appearances.

Head coach Ryan Hybl has set the lineup for the Southern Highlands Collegiate as follows: Jacob Goode, Finn Koelle, Emil Herstad, Jack Murphy, and Grady Millar.

Oklahoma, ranked No. 14, enters the tournament as a past champion, having won the event in both 2024, and 2022. Two members of Oklahoma’s 2024 championship team, Jase Summy and Ryder Cowan, will compete this week. UNLV will host the event, beginning play at 9 a.m. PT each day, with tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes.

Live scoring for the Southern Highlands Collegiate is available on Clippd. Tee times and pairings were scheduled to be released Saturday evening.
