USF, TGH & GE HealthCare: Advancing Surgical Training & Clinical Innovation
The University of South Florida’s Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) has become the first institution in Florida, and the third globally, to install GE HealthCare’s Allia Moveo image-guided therapy system, according to a statement released February 13, 2026.
The Allia Moveo system will be integrated into CAMLS’s education programs for students, faculty, and practicing clinicians, mirroring the environment of a hybrid operating room. This addition extends an existing collaboration between USF Health, Tampa General Hospital (TGH), and GE HealthCare, focused on clinical innovation and training.
CAMLS, part of the Tampa Medical & Research District, is one of the largest stand-alone healthcare simulation centers in the world. Dr. Haru Okuda, executive director of CAMLS and associate vice president of interprofessional education and practice with USF Health, stated that gaining access to the latest surgical imaging and guidance technologies ensures that innovation in education keeps pace with innovation in care.
The partnership between TGH and GE HealthCare has been expanding in recent years. In May 2024, the two organizations announced an agreement to deploy GE HealthCare’s Imaging and Ultrasound technology solutions to benefit clinicians and patients in TGH Imaging’s outpatient facilities across Florida. John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General, said at the time that the investment in GE HealthCare’s technologies was focused on enhancing the patient experience and improving patient outcomes through faster and more accurate diagnoses.
TGH Imaging currently operates 21 outpatient locations throughout Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Palm Beach counties, and employs over 65 board-certified radiologists with expertise in all 11 radiology subspecialties. These radiologists likewise serve as faculty for the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Radiology.
In March 2023, TGH Imaging was the first in Florida to install GE HealthCare’s Omni Legend digital PET/CT system. Catherine Estrampes, president and CEO, U.S., and Canada at GE HealthCare, affirmed the value of the long-term partnership with Tampa General Hospital and TGH Imaging.
The Tampa Medical & Research District, anchored by TGH and USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, is one of the largest academic healthcare systems in the United States, attracting clinicians, scientists, educators, and industry leaders.
