The Pentagon is preparing to deploy approximately 3,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, according to multiple reports confirmed by defense officials. The deployment is intended to support potential military operations against Iran, as the conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate.

While a final decision on deploying ground troops directly into Iran has not been made, the move provides President Donald Trump with increased strategic options, the Wall Street Journal reported. The 82nd Airborne is a rapid-response force capable of deploying a battalion within 18 hours and a full brigade within 72 hours.

The deployment comes as the Pentagon has already dispatched roughly 2,500 Marines aboard three warships, including the USS Boxer amphibious assault ship, to the region. More than 50,000 U.S. Troops are currently stationed in the region, according to previous U.S. Statements.
