US 60 to Close Between Superior and Miami on Wednesday, Sept. 24 for Bridge Work
SUPERIOR, AZ – The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is advising drivers to plan for a full closure of US 60 between Superior and Miami on Wednesday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for bridge replacement work.
During the closure, US 60 between Miami and Magma Mine Road (mileposts 231-243) will remain open to local traffic only. Motorists are directed to use a detour via southbound State Route 177 through Winkelman to northbound SR 77 for eastbound travel, and southbound SR 77 through Winkelman to northbound SR 177 for westbound travel. ADOT notes the detour is approximately 75 miles and may add an hour to travel time between Superior and Miami, recommending drivers consider traveling before 9 a.m. or after 2 p.m.
Prior to the full closure, US 60 east of Superior, between mileposts 227-229, will be reduced to one lane with alternating east- and westbound travel from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, Tuesday, Sept. 23, and Thursday, Sept. 25. Flaggers and a pilot car will guide drivers through this work zone.
Additional full closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, Wednesday, Oct.1, and Thursday, Oct.2, with the same detour route in effect.
ADOT reminds drivers that schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.Lane restrictions, speed reductions, and a 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place throughout the project. Oversize loads can be accommodated with advance notice. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, exercise caution, and merge safely in all work zones.
