Uruguay Carnival Weather: Storms Forecast for Feb 16-17

February 14, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Montevideo, Uruguay – The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) has issued a special forecast predicting unstable weather conditions and potential storms across the country during Carnaval celebrations, specifically on Monday, February 16th, and Tuesday, February 17th, 2026.

The forecast indicates a temperate morning on Monday, transitioning to a warm afternoon with partly to fully cloudy skies nationwide. However, conditions are expected to deteriorate in the late afternoon and evening along the western and northern coastal regions, with anticipated rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. This could disrupt outdoor Carnaval activities planned for the evening, according to the report.

Tuesday’s weather will remain largely unchanged, with temperatures consistent with Monday and skies ranging from slightly cloudy to overcast. Inumet specifically highlighted the western coastal area as being particularly susceptible to thunderstorm development throughout the day. The remainder of the country is expected to experience persistent cloud cover but more stable conditions.

Inumet’s forecast for Monday predicts potential maximum temperatures reaching 34°C in the north and 28°C in the south, with minimum temperatures between 21°C and 22°C nationally. Tuesday’s forecast anticipates maximum temperatures between 29°C and 32°C, with minimums ranging from 20°C to 22°C.

Authorities are advising individuals in the affected areas to remain informed about potential short-term weather alerts and updates. The forecast follows a broader pattern of unstable weather predicted for the Carnaval weekend, with earlier reports indicating potential showers and thunderstorms throughout the extended holiday. The extended weekend is expected to see temperatures between 25°C and 32°C, with lows between 13°C and 19°C on Saturday, and precipitation and thunderstorms across the country on Sunday.
