Upper West Side Doorman Sentenced for $500K Elderly Scam

Upper West Side⁤ Doorman Receives Prison ⁢Sentence for $480,000​ Theft from Seniors

New‌ York, ‌NY‍ -‌ October 3, 2025 – A ‍former ‌doorman on the Upper West Side was sentenced today​ to 1 1/2 to⁣ 4 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing ‌nearly $480,000 from elderly residents ​over⁣ a three-year period. ⁢The ​case‌ highlights the‌ vulnerability‌ of seniors to financial exploitation and ⁣underscores ‍the importance of⁢ vigilance within residential buildings.

Between 2022 and 2025,Victor Delgado,34,abused his position of trust to pilfer checks and cash from residents of a building⁣ on West 86th Street. Delgado exploited ‌his⁣ access to mail and building services to intercept and cash checks, and directly steal money from residents, primarily targeting individuals over the age of​ 65. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office initiated ⁢the examination following ‍complaints ‌from residents and the building’s‌ management.

“This defendant systematically preyed on vulnerable ‌elderly residents,​ betraying their ‌trust for personal gain,” stated Manhattan⁣ District Attorney Alvin⁣ Bragg ‍in a press release. “This sentence ‍sends a clear ⁤message ⁤that we will vigorously prosecute ‌those who‌ target seniors‌ for financial exploitation.”

Prosecutors detailed how Delgado used​ the stolen funds for personal expenses, including travel and entertainment. The investigation revealed a pattern of fraudulent ‌activity, wiht Delgado forging signatures and ⁣altering checks to conceal his crimes. He was arrested in March ‌2025 and ​subsequently‍ pleaded guilty to grand larceny ⁤and ​forgery charges.

As part of the sentencing, Delgado ⁣was ordered to pay full restitution to the victims. The Manhattan District​ Attorney’s Office’s⁢ Elder⁢ Fraud Unit ⁢continues to investigate potential additional victims ‍and encourages ‍anyone with information to come ‌forward. Residents and⁢ building staff⁤ are reminded ​to ‍report any suspicious⁣ activity immediately.
