UPMC Expands Spine Care Access in Greensburg, PA – New Clinic Opens

Greensburg, Pa. – Residents of Greensburg and the surrounding Laurel Highlands region now have increased access to specialized spine care with the opening of a new UPMC clinic co-located with UPMC GoHealth Urgent Care on U.S. Route 30. The clinic, which began seeing patients this month, features a team of five physicians – three orthopaedic surgeons, a neurosurgeon, and a pain medicine physician – offering comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a range of spinal conditions.

The new facility addresses a demand for coordinated specialty care in the region, allowing patients with conditions such as neck and back pain, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and pinched nerves to receive treatment without traveling long distances. UPMC officials say the co-location with urgent care is part of a broader strategy to improve access to services, made possible through a partnership with GoHealth announced last year. The clinic is also situated near a UPMC Rehabilitation Institute outpatient site, further streamlining care coordination.

“As the demand for UPMC’s services continues to grow in our communities, we are committed to providing care that is both exceptional and accessible,” said Amy Meister, D.O., president of UPMC Community and Ambulatory Services. “By ensuring continued access to comprehensive spine care with an expanded panel of providers, we’re making it easier for individuals to access specialized treatment, reducing the need for long-distance travel and supporting their health where it matters most.”

The opening of the clinic follows the retirement of Michael Rutigliano, M.D., a neurosurgeon who served the Greensburg community for over three decades. UPMC stated the new clinic ensures continuity of care while expanding the range of subspecialty expertise available to patients.

Steven Agabegi, M.D., an orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in conditions ranging from degenerative disease to complex revision surgery, will see patients at the Greensburg location, as well as UPMC East and UPMC Somerset. Kathryn S. Hoes, M.D., a neurosurgeon specializing in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery, will also practice at the clinic and operate at UPMC East. Jacob Shipley, M.D., a pain medicine physician focusing on non-surgical treatments for spine-related conditions, will contribute a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Vincent Silvaggio, M.D., an orthopaedic spine surgeon with over 30 years of experience, and Patrick Smith, M.D., an orthopaedic spine surgeon treating a wide range of cervical and lumbar spine conditions, complete the physician team. Both operate at UPMC St. Margaret. The team is supported by physician assistants and certified registered nurse practitioners, including Meredith Carr, PA-C, Pamela Rosato-Lange, CRNP, and Elissa Wegley, CRNP.

The clinic is located at 5126 US-30 Suite 300, Greensburg, Pa. 15601. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling 724-420-9070.
