University of Scranton Health Professions Organization Welcomes New Director, Hosts Open House
SCRANTON, PA – Teh University of Scranton’s Health Professions Organization (HPO) recently hosted an Open House to introduce its new program director, Dr. Anthony Ferentino.The event allowed prospective and current students to meet Dr. Ferentino and learn about the comprehensive support services offered by the University’s office of health professions, located within the Institute of Molecular Biology and Medicine building.
Dr. Ferentino brings extensive experience to the role, previously serving as director of the Center for Learning Excellence at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and as an assistant professor of medical education at Geisinger.he also taught anatomy and physiology as an adjunct professor at The University of Scranton for seven years and practiced for 22 years as a chiropractic physician in Pittston.
The HPO supports students pursuing a variety of health careers, including pre-medicine, pre-dental, pre-physician assistant, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, and pre-veterinary studies. Services range from academic guidance to submission assistance, bolstered by weekly meetings and resources provided by the student-led HPO.
“Our office helps and supports all of our pre-medical and pre-health students…We help them navigate from academics all the way through their application process,” Dr. Ferentino stated. He expressed enthusiasm for his new position, adding, “Its been wonderful and I’m grateful to be hear. I have great visions and hope for what I can contribute and achieve in this role – to support our students and make it even stronger than it already is.”
This year’s HPO officers are: William Wine (President), Drew Mauriello and David Banko (Co-Vice Presidents of Presentations), Nicole Baker (Treasurer), Sophia Vanesko (Secretary), Matthew Jasienski (service Chair), and Emily Cosklo (Junior Liaison).
