University of Pennsylvania launches $34 Million Wrestling Campaign Fueled by $20 Million gift

The University of Pennsylvania has announced a notable $20 million gift from alumnus Dave Pottruck, initiating a $34 million fundraising campaign dedicated to its wrestling program.

Campaign Goals and Facility Enhancements

The thorough campaign aims to revitalize the university’s wrestling facilities and bolster its endowment. A considerable portion of the funds will be allocated to renovations for the Weightman Hall Gymnasium. This historic venue, constructed in 1903, holds the distinction of hosting the inaugural collegiate wrestling tournament.

Additionally, the campaign seeks to increase the university’s wrestling endowment by $9 million. The newly established pottruck-Reina Wrestling Center, scheduled for completion in spring 2028, will offer cutting-edge training amenities and contemporary locker room facilities.

Pottruck’s Generosity and Legacy

Dave Pottruck, an alumnus of both the College and the Wharton School, has a deep-rooted connection to the university. His past involvement includes serving as a former university trustee and an emeritus member of the Penn Athletics board of advisors. Pottruck was also a student-athlete, participating in both wrestling and football during his tenure at Penn.
