Universal Basic Salary for State Employees in Ushuaia, Argentina

State Employees Could⁢ See‍ Salary Overhaul ⁢with Proposed Universal Basic Salary Bill

USHUAIA – Legislators Jorge lechman and Raúl ⁤Von Der Thusen of ⁣the Somos Fueguinos party met ⁤with Carlos Córdoba,⁣ general Secretary of the‌ Provincial ATE Commission, to discuss a proposed bill establishing a Universal Basic‌ Salary for all state employees. The legislation aims to address long-standing inequities and improve the financial stability of public sector⁤ workers.

The core of the proposal‍ focuses on ⁢three key changes: ⁢establishing‌ a unified salary floor across all ⁢state positions, eliminating pay discrepancies based‍ on rank for ⁣employees performing similar duties, and adjusting salaries to accurately reflect‍ the current cost of living.

according to Córdoba, the ATE believes a common salary floor is crucial to eliminate unfairness ⁢within the system. He emphasized ⁢that current salary structures⁣ “discourage administrative careers and fragment‍ the salary system,”⁢ necessitating a comprehensive adjustment.

Legislator Von Der Thusen highlighted the ⁢widespread‌ impact of the issue, stating that low salaries⁢ affect both provincial⁢ and municipal employees, and that purchasing power has considerably ‍declined over time. He argued that a reorganization of state resources is vital to‌ improve the income and working conditions ⁤of those ⁤who ⁤maintain public administration.

Lechman echoed this sentiment, asserting that a well-functioning⁣ state requires a well-compensated workforce. “We ‌cannot talk about efficiency if the⁢ salary does not accompany it,” he stated,⁣ advocating for a basic salary that is “orderly, equivalent and adjusted to economic reality” to ‌ensure stability and dignity‍ for state‍ employees. He ‍stressed the urgency of the discussion, calling for immediate action on the matter.
