United Way Greater toronto Launches 2025 Community Campaign Focused on Poverty Reduction
Toronto, ON – United Way Greater Toronto (UWGT) has officially launched its annual community campaign, calling on partners to take “bold action” to amplify impact and reaffirm their commitment to supporting communities across Peel, Toronto, and York Region. The campaign aims to drive enduring change by addressing the root causes of poverty and building a more equitable region.
“to kick off this year’s campaign, I invite all our partners to take bold action like never before, to help amplify our impact and stay united in our commitment,” stated Heather McDonald, CEO & President of United Way Greater Toronto.Leading the charge as Campaign Chair is Norie campbell, Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary at Thomson Reuters. A long-time volunteer and donor with UWGT,Campbell previously served as Chair of the Major Individual Giving Cabinet in 2020 and held a senior leadership position at TD Bank Group.
“The 2025 Campaign is a chance for individuals, workplaces and organizations across Peel, Toronto and York region to take action to move us one step closer to reducing the direct impacts of poverty in our communities,” said Campbell. “I am privileged to chair a Cabinet of great leaders who really care and who are willing to go above and beyond to make a difference. The 2025 Campaign will build on the foundation of our long-standing and dedicated volunteers and donors while reaching newly engaged supporters that are inspired by the important work of the United Way Greater Toronto.”
Last year’s community campaign delivered significant impact, including providing housing support that helped 30,000 families avoid eviction and offering mental health services to 20,000 individuals through UWGT-funded agencies. Building on this success, United Way is investing $71 million in Community Action Grants over the next three years, supporting over 250 programs focused on food security and income support throughout Peel, Toronto, and York Region.United Way Greater toronto is the largest non-government funder of community services in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), providing a vital safety net for individuals and families experiencing poverty. Through a network of agencies and initiatives, UWGT works to ensure access to essential programs and services, fostering a thriving community for all. The organization’s work is informed by research, strategic leadership, local advocacy, and collaborative partnerships dedicated to creating lasting solutions to the GTA’s most pressing challenges.
