Union Hockey Sweeps Cornell, Faces Harvard Next | Korpi & Muthersbaugh Lead Victory

February 15, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men’s hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Cornell University with a 4-1 victory Saturday night, propelled by two goals from sophomore Ben Muthersbaugh and 28 saves from classmate Cameron Korpi. The win moves Union (18-10-2, 8-9-1 ECAC Hockey) into sixth place in the ECAC Hockey standings.

Muthersbaugh scored the opening goal late in the first period, turning in the slot to fire a shot past Cornell goaltender Alexis Cournoyer. He extended the lead early in the second period, capitalizing on an open net after a shot from Will Felicio. This marked the second time this season Muthersbaugh has scored multiple goals in consecutive games, previously achieving the feat against Mercyhurst in October 2024 and Rensselaer later that month, earning him the Hockey Commissioners Association’s Rookie of the Month award.

Cornell’s Cournoyer was replaced midway through the second period after allowing three goals. Senior Nate Hanley then scored on the replacement goaltender, increasing Union’s lead. The Big Red, entering the weekend with the nation’s toughest defense, allowing an average of 1.91 goals per game, conceded four goals to Union, becoming only the fifth team to score three or more against them this season.

Charlie Major scored for Cornell with an extra skater late in the game, but Parker Lindauer answered with an empty-net goal for Union with 27 seconds remaining, securing the 4-1 victory. Korpi recorded his 11th win of the season and his most saves in a game since November 22nd. Union also maintained its streak of 20 games without allowing a power-play goal.

Union will next face Harvard University on Friday, February 20th, at 7 p.m. In Schenectady.
