A 52-year-old motorcyclist died in Milan on Tuesday after colliding with a microcar driven by an 18-year-old with a learner’s permit, according to reports. The incident occurred as the microcar entered traffic, resulting in a fatal impact.

Authorities have impounded the motorcycle due to a lack of insurance. The 18-year-old driver of the microcar was reportedly in possession of a “foglio rosa,” the Italian provisional driving license, at the time of the accident. The victim, identified as Andrea Curti, a local freelance professional, resided near the site of the collision.

Italian regulations allow 18-year-olds to obtain a motorcycle license, specifically the A2 license, which permits operation of motorcycles with a maximum power output of 48 horsepower. The cost of obtaining the A2 license through a driving school is approximately 650 Euros. Demand for more powerful motorcycles among 18-year-olds is high, with models like the Yamaha R3 and Aprilia RS 457 being particularly popular choices, despite the power limitations of the A2 license.

The Yamaha R3, a 321cc sport bike producing 42 horsepower, is currently priced around 6799 Euros. The Aprilia RS 457 is similarly gaining traction as a design and performance leader in the entry-level sportbike segment.
