UN: Indonesian Peacekeepers Killed by Israeli Fire and Hezbollah Bomb in Lebanon

April 9, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The United Nations has confirmed that Indonesian peacekeepers stationed in Lebanon were killed and wounded by two separate incidents involving Israeli military fire and a Hezbollah roadside bomb.

According to UN reports, the casualties occurred during a period of heightened volatility in southern Lebanon. One incident involved fire originating from an Israeli tank, whereas a separate attack utilized an improvised explosive device (IED) deployed by Hezbollah. These events have resulted in the death of Private Farizal Rhomadhon and left other Indonesian personnel wounded.

Medical reports provided by the UN indicate that the wounded Indonesian peacekeepers are currently in stable condition. The loss of Private Rhomadhon has prompted mourning and funeral preparations in Indonesia, as the nation processes the casualties sustained by its contingent in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Indonesian Government Response

The Indonesian government has formally demanded a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the deaths of its personnel. Jakarta is seeking a detailed accounting of the circumstances that led to the peacekeepers being targeted or caught in the crossfire of the conflicting parties.

The demand for a probe emphasizes the necessity of establishing accountability for the breach of the protected status afforded to UN peacekeepers operating within the region. Indonesian officials have stressed that the safety of their troops is paramount and that the specific mechanisms of the attacks—both the tank fire and the IED—require rigorous verification.

The UN continues to coordinate with the involved parties to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the casualties, while Indonesia awaits the results of the institutional inquiry into the security failures that endangered its troops.
