Ulveson and Nessvold Explore the Terrifying and Hilarious possibilities of time Travel in New SVT Comedy
Swedish actor Johan Ulveson and creator Hampus Nessvold discuss the unsettling yet compelling premise behind their new SVT comedy series, “Nya Noa Nyman,” which centers on a man traveling back in time to alter his life. Ulveson described the idea of revisiting past choices as ”a very funny and captivating thought to be able to travel back and make the choices again, but also a nasty thought if it were to be serious, very scary and horrible.”
The series, scripted by Björn Edgren, Sofie Forsman, and Tove Forsman, and based on an idea from Nessvold and Edgren, follows Noah, an older man who journeys from 2065 to 2025 to dissuade his younger self from a job at a credit company and prevent a personal tragedy. Nessvold suggests the series’ core isn’t grand alteration, but rather “little.” Ulveson, reflecting on the theme of regret, recalled a drama director’s play based on interviews revealing people often fixate on minor regrets – “like ‘I regret not choosing English specifically'”-when grappling with larger existential concerns.
Ulveson also revealed he was once approached to host Melodifestivalen alongside Jill Johnson, a proposition he declined and now only “maybe a little” regrets.
“nya Noa Nyman” is directed by Ted Kjellsson and set in Uppsala. It premieres October 31 on SVT Play and November 1 on SVT1.
