Odessa Hit by Deadly Drone Attack; Multiple Regions Report damage
A massive Russian drone attack overnight has left at least one person dead and six injured in Odessa, Ukraine. The assault targeted a nine-story apartment building, with fires breaking out on multiple floors. Simultaneously occurring, the Dnipropetrovsk region also experienced a meaningful attack, damaging a fire station, industrial facilities, and a five-story residential building. Critical infrastructure in the Sumy region was also hit, leaving thousands of families without electricity.
The attacks underscore Ukraine’s ongoing need for robust air defense systems and domestic production capabilities, particularly for drones. President Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of allied support in these areas, stating that “common weapons production, investment in the production of drones in Ukraine – especially fighter drones – providing air defense systems and missiles for them and the possibility of their production here in Ukraine – all saving lives and Ukraine now needs it.” The incidents highlight the persistent threat of Russian aerial assaults on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
