UK Summons Iranian Envoy Over Espionage & “Destabilizing Acts”

March 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office has summoned the Iranian ambassador to London, Saeed Ali Mousavi, following allegations of espionage and “destabilizing activities” by Tehran within England. The move comes after two individuals were charged under the National Security Act, according to reports from The Times of Israel.

The individuals facing charges in a London court are accused of spying on behalf of Iran. One suspect is an Iranian national, while the other holds dual British-Iranian citizenship. Both are alleged to have assisted a foreign intelligence service, prompting the UK government to take action.

“Our government will take all necessary measures to protect the British people, including exposing reckless and destabilizing Iranian actions both within the UK and abroad,” a spokesperson for the Foreign Office stated.

The charges against the two Iranian nationals center on alleged surveillance of the British Jewish community. Investigators believe the pair were gathering information on potential targets, including synagogues, raising concerns about potential attacks. British authorities have characterized these actions as a threat to national security and have vowed a response.

The situation escalates existing tensions between the UK, and Iran. Recent developments suggest a potential shift in British policy toward a more assertive stance against Iranian activities. This follows a decision by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to allow the United States to utilize UK bases for potential strikes against Iranian military and strategic infrastructure, as reported by OBOZ.UA.

This decision to join an anti-Iranian coalition was reportedly prompted by intelligence shared by Mossad with MI6 regarding Iran’s development of ballistic missiles capable of reaching distances of up to 4,000 kilometers, posing a potential threat to the United Kingdom and its allies.

Further heightening tensions, Iran reportedly attempted to attack a joint British-American military base at Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands with two ballistic missiles. While one missile was intercepted by the U.S. Navy, the other reportedly failed mid-flight. Despite the lack of successful impact, the attack marks the first instance of Iran employing ballistic missiles at such a long range – approximately 4,000 kilometers from Iranian territory.

the UK has deployed a nuclear-powered submarine armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles and heavy torpedoes to the Arabian Sea, according to media reports. The submarine’s presence is seen as a signal of Britain’s resolve in the region.
