The UKS stance on recognizing a Palestinian state hinges on specific actions from Israel and Hamas, according to Sir Keir starmer.
Starmer stated that the UK would consider recognizing a Palestinian state at a UN summit in September, provided Israel commits to a ceasefire. He further outlined conditions for the UK to refrain from recognition: Israel must permit increased aid into Gaza, cease land annexation in the West Bank, agree to a ceasefire, and engage in a long-term peace process within the next two months.
Additionally, Starmer emphasized that Hamas must promptly release all remaining Israeli hostages, sign a ceasefire agreement, disarm, and relinquish any claim to governing Gaza.
He also called for “much-needed reform” within the Palestinian Authority, wich currently administers parts of the occupied West Bank, and reiterated that Hamas, the controlling authority in Gaza, “can play no part” in the future governance of the territory.
