U.S. Approves $200 Million Communications Equipment Sale to the United kingdom
The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign military Sale to the United Kingdom for an estimated $200 million. This sale includes six additional Advanced Extremely High frequency (AEHF) Navy Multiband Terminals (NMTs), building upon a previous sale of two NMTs valued at $41.02 million. The combined purchase will provide the UK with a total of eight AEHF NMTs.
The package also encompasses a range of supporting elements, including communications security devices, equipment, submarine masts, spare parts, training, and associated engineering and logistics support from RTX Corporation.
This sale is intended to bolster the UK’s communications capabilities, enhancing interoperability and enabling secure satellite dialog to Royal Navy ships, submarines (including the Dreadnought class), and shore sites in non-contested environments. It supports U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening a key NATO ally and promoting stability in Europe.
The U.S. Government affirms that this sale will not disrupt the regional military balance, impact U.S. defense readiness, or require additional personnel deployment. The final cost may be lower depending on specific requirements and the final sales agreement. No offset agreements are currently known, and any such agreements will be negotiated directly between the UK and RTX Corporation.
