Uganda Agencies Promise Business as Usual During Elections

The Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), Col. Edith Nakalema, and other heads of government agencies have assured the public that institutions will continue operating normally throughout the election period.

“It’s time for all of us to protect our country and ensure a thriving investment climate. We will maintain business as usual during and after the elections. our offices will remain open,” she stated.

Col. Nakalema made these remarks on Monday, january 12th, 2026, during a pre-election media briefing with heads of government agencies, held at SHIPU offices in Kampala.

The briefing occurred as Uganda prepares for general elections on Thursday, january 15th, 2026.

Col. Nakalema emphasized that, with media support, government agencies have made significant progress and rely on the press to counter speculation about election-related disruptions to service delivery.

“We sincerely thank you for your goodwill and dedication to informing citizens about public affairs in Uganda,” she said.

“Your balanced coverage, amplification of the government’s achievements over the last five years, and feedback on current issues have energized us to refine our strategies and achieve our goals. We appreciate the support of all media houses.”

Dr.Barirega Akankwasah, Dean of heads of government agencies and Executive Director of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), echoed Col. Nakalema’s assurance that business will continue as usual during and after the elections.

“Elections are a vital pillar of democracy, and every eligible citizen has a constitutional right to participate peacefully and lawfully,” he said.

“We will remain fully operational and committed to serving Ugandans during this period and beyond. Service delivery will not be interrupted by the elections.”

Dr. Akankwasah also urged Ugandans to maintain peace and stability during the elections.
