UD Field Hockey 2025 Schedule: Zollinger’s First Season

The University of Delaware field hockey program has unveiled its 2025 schedule, as announced by head coach Tara Zollinger. The Fightin’ Blue Hens are set to compete as an independent team this fall while the university actively pursues conference affiliation. Despite this independent status, UD remains eligible for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

This season marks Zollinger’s debut as head coach for the Blue Hens. She previously led Shippensburg University for seven seasons, achieving a 118-25 record and securing three national championships in Division II.

the Delaware squad is scheduled to face five opponents who were ranked in the final 2024 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National coaches Poll, including the reigning national champions.

The season will commence with two home games at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. Delaware will host Temple on August 29, followed by a matchup against the University of California on August 31.

the team’s first road game under Zollinger’s leadership will be at Penn State on September 5. This will be followed by a three-game homestand in Newark.

During their time at home, the Blue & Gold will compete against Kent State on September 12, Bucknell on September 14, and the defending national champions, northwestern, on September 19.Following thes home contests, Delaware will travel north for two away games against Pennsylvania-based teams: Lock Haven on September 21 and Saint Joseph’s, the 2024 Division I runners-up, on September 24. The game against Lock Haven will be the first meeting between the two programs since 1980, a period predating NCAA sponsorship of field hockey.

Upon returning to Newark, the Blue Hens will host William & Mary on September 26 and Ohio State on September 28.

To begin October, UD will face two former Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponents on the road, traveling to Towson on October 3 and Drexel on October 5.

The team will continue its October schedule with consecutive Sunday games. The first will be in Winston Salem, North Carolina, against Wake Forest on October 12. The second will be a home game against Old dominion on October 19.

The homestand will extend as UD hosts American on October 26.The final two home games of the season will feature a matchup against Lafayette on Halloween afternoon.

Delaware’s regular-season schedule will conclude with an away game against Penn on November 2.

Individual game tickets for field hockey matches are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 3-12. Season ticket packages will also be available at a discounted rate, 50% off the single-game adult price.Group rate incentives and additional gameday experience opportunities will also be offered.
