Ubisoft and others bid to acquire Arkane Lyon, Bloomberg says
Arkane Lyon could escape closure through a potential sale. Microsoft is exploring options to spin off the French video game studio outside of the Xbox corporate structure, with Ubisoft and at least two other gaming companies stepping forward with acquisition bids, according to Bloomberg Jason Schreier.
The negotiations give the studio a fresh lifeline following months of sweeping restructuring across Microsoft’s gaming division. Under an initial timeline, a resolution was expected by November 13, 2026. That deadline has since been extended to December 13, 2026, driven by French labor regulations and the looming threat of a studio shutdown.
Ubisoft Enters the Bidding as Options Remain Open
Ubisoft’s interest places the studio in the sights of a major publisher that has known the developer for two decades. The two French companies previously collaborated on 2006’s Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, which Ubisoft published before ZeniMax Media acquired Arkane in 2010. Beyond external corporate bids, Xbox has also weighed a management buyout that would grant the Lyon team independence, a strategy Microsoft previously deployed with studios like Double Fine, Undead Labs, and Compulsion Games.
Financial terms of the bids remain undisclosed, and neither Microsoft nor Ubisoft has confirmed a transaction. Furthermore, it is still unclear whether intellectual property rights for franchises like Dishonored and Deathloop would transfer to a new owner or remain with the developers in the event of an independent buyout.
Uncertainty Surrounds Marvel’s Blade
For players watching the negotiations, the primary question centers on Marvel’s Blade. First unveiled at the Game Awards in December 2023, the third-person action-adventure game stars the vampire hunter in a Parisian setting overrun by vampires.

While official release dates are absent, current reporting indicates production on the title has progressed far enough for a launch within the next one to two years. Whether the project reaches completion under Ubisoft, another corporate buyer, or an independent Arkane studio depends entirely on the outcome of the ongoing talks before the December deadline.
