Uber Student Discount: Exam Success & Savings | OCR Eligible
Uber has launched a discounted subscription service for college students, Uber One for Students, offering benefits including zero delivery fees and savings on rides, as the Department of Education faces scrutiny over its enforcement of disability rights for students.
The Uber One for Students program, priced at $4.99 per month or $48 annually, provides members with a range of perks when using the Uber and Uber Eats platforms. These include $0 delivery fees on eligible orders, up to 10% off eligible orders, and 6% back in Uber One credits on rides. Specific weekly promotions are similarly available, such as free items from Starbucks on Mondays, Taco Bell on Tuesdays, Panera on Thursdays, Popeyes on Fridays, and Gopuff on Sundays, all contingent on a $15 or $35 minimum order. Users must be 18 years or older and verify their student status to qualify. The subscription auto-renews and can be canceled at any time.
The launch of the student-focused subscription coincides with growing concerns about the capacity of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) to effectively enforce federal disability protections for students. Disability advocates have warned that staffing cuts and internal restructuring within the OCR are hindering its ability to investigate and resolve complaints related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The OCR is responsible for ensuring equal access to education and promoting educational excellence through the enforcement of civil rights laws in schools and institutions receiving federal funding.
The OCR operates five regional offices and manages a team of experts dedicated to civil rights enforcement. Individuals can file complaints with the OCR alleging discrimination, and the office publishes lists of institutions currently under investigation. Recent case resolutions are also made public, offering insight into the types of civil rights violations being addressed. The OCR also provides FAQs and resources related to its work, including information on the complaint process and the Civil Rights Data Collection.
Uber One for Students requires a valid payment method, including debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal. Uber Cash can also be applied towards the subscription fee. The program is available through the Uber app, requiring users to have the latest version installed to enroll.
