UAlbany Field Hockey Falls to #12 umass in Close contest, 2-1
AMHERST, MA – Teh UAlbany Great Danes battled a tough #12 UMass Minutewomen team on the road wednesday, ultimately falling 2-1 despite a standout performance from goalkeeper Emma Peeters. The loss drops UAlbany to [record not provided in source] on the season as they prepare to open conference play next week.
The Great Danes initially took the lead late in the second quarter thanks to a goal from Lillian Willis, assisted by freshman Jette Kurz. Kurz drove the ball into the circle, where Willis skillfully evaded defenders adn the goalie to score her first career goal.Though, UMass responded with a goal off a penalty corner in the third quarter and then secured the game-winner approximately five minutes into the fourth.
Peeters was a key factor in keeping the game close, recording a season-high 13 saves – just one shy of her career best of 14. Despite the strong defensive effort, UAlbany was unable to capitalize on four shot attempts in the final quarter, including two on goal.
