UAB football Player Arrested After stabbing Teammates
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A UAB football player was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly stabbing two of his teammates at the UAB football facility, a university spokesman confirmed to ESPN. The incident occurred prior to the Blazers‘ scheduled home game against South Florida.
Both injured players were transported to UAB Hospital and are currently listed in stable condition. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.
Despite the unsettling incident, UAB officials announced the game against South Florida will proceed as planned, with a kickoff time of 3 p.m. ET.
an investigation into the stabbing is currently underway. In a statement,UAB emphasized that “UAB’s top priority remains the safety and well-being of all of our students.”
The incident marks a disturbing event for the UAB football program,which resumed operations in 2017 after a two-year hiatus due to funding challenges. The Blazers are members of the American Athletic Conference.
