U.S. Bank releases two new small business credit cards with rewards
U.S. Bank announced the release of two new small business credit cards designed to offer cash-back rewards on commercial purchases. The U.S. Bank Business Essentials Visa Card and the U.S. Bank Business Essentials Plus Visa Signature Card provide unlimited 2% cash back on eligible purchases, targeting a market segment that employs millions of Americans and accounts for nearly half of the United States Gross Domestic Product.
Expanding Liquidity Options for Commercial Borrowers
Cardholders can increase their overall cash-back yield by linking their plastic to eligible business checking accounts. For the standard Business Essentials card, total cash back climbs as high as 2.5%, while the premium Plus variant scales up to 3.5% under the same deposit criteria.
Courtney Kelso, senior vice president of payments, consumer, and small business at U.S. Bank, contextualized the market reach of this demographic in the announcement. Small business owners make up a massive engine for domestic output, driving nearly half of the nation’s economic activity.
Fee Structures and Bonus Thresholds Compared
The two products cater to distinctly different tiers of corporate spenders. The entry-level Business Essentials card carries no annual fee, appealing to lean operations focused on cost containment. It rewards new cardholders with a 500-dollar cash bonus if they clear 5,000 dollars in expenditures within the first 150 days of account opening. It also offers a zero-percent introductory annual percentage rate on purchases across the first 12 billing cycles.
Conversely, the Business Essentials Plus Visa Signature card commands an annual fee of 295 dollars. To offset this cost, the card introduces an automatic 5-percent cash-back structure on the cardholder’s highest-spend category each year, capped at an annual maximum of 200,000 dollars in eligible outlays. The sign-up bonus scales accordingly, granting 1,000 dollars to businesses that log 15,000 dollars in purchases during the initial 150-day window.
Embedded Spend Management and Extend Pay Tools
Beyond headline rewards, both cards integrate directly into U.S. Bank’s proprietary Spend Management platform. This digital utility allows business owners to capture receipts instantly, monitor card spending, set card controls, and sync transaction ledgers directly with external accounting software packages.
The products also feature U.S. Bank Extend Pay, a structured financing tool that lets corporations break large purchases into fixed-fee installment plans.
Marketing Rollout and Corporate Parent Context
To drive adoption, U.S. Bank enlisted Jessica Alba to serve as the official spokesperson for the new small business card suite. Alba is slated to appear in upcoming digital and television ad campaigns promoting the offerings. The issuing bank operates as a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, a major financial institution serving millions of clients across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
