WASHINGTON, UTAH – Tyler Robinson, 22, has been taken into custody as the sole suspect in the shooting death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, authorities announced. Robinson was apprehended late Tuesday night, approximately 420 kilometers from the university campus where the shooting occurred, in the town of Washington, Utah.
the FBI released surveillance images of Robinson shortly after the incident, offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. According to officials, Robinson acted alone. “We have no information that could lead to another arrest. But the inquiry is still underway,” stated Spencer Cox. While the shooting is considered targeted, the full motivations behind the act remain under investigation.
Relatives of Robinson have reported a recent shift towards political engagement, though he was not affiliated with any political party and did not vote in the last election. They stated he frequently expressed animosity towards Kirk and his views during family meals.Investigators also discovered anti-fascist inscriptions on the bullets recovered from the hunting rifle used in the shooting, including phrases like “Eh, fascist! Caught!” and “If you read this, you are gay, lmao,” according to Spencer Cox.
Robinson’s father, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s office, reportedly aided in his son’s capture. The father received a message from Robinson indicating a preference for suicide rather than apprehension.
