Two Rivers Community Health Plans to Open Moab Clinic in January 2027

October 6, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Moab residents will soon have access to a new healthcare option when Two Rivers Community Health begins seeing medical patients in the city this coming January, according to a Sept. 17 press release.

Key Clinical Takeaways:

  • Two Rivers Community Health, formerly known as Green River Medical Center, is expanding its services to Moab beginning in January 2027.
  • The clinic plans to operate out of the Moab Free Health Clinic building on 200 South before transitioning to its own permanent facility.
  • Initial services will focus on medical care and limited dental services, with behavioral health, substance use treatment, and fuller dental care scheduled to follow.

Expansion to Moab Fills Rural Healthcare Gaps

The nonprofit health center, based in Green River, is establishing a Moab presence to reduce travel barriers for rural patients. Around 200 Moab residents already drive more than 50 miles to the Green River clinic for medical appointments, according to the press release. Over time, the new center plans to consolidate primary care, mental health care, substance use treatment, and dental care into a single location. The initiative is backed by a $650,000 annual New Access Point award from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration, as stated by case manager Heidi Thompson. As a federally qualified health center, Two Rivers serves more than 1,000 patients annually across Emery, Grand, San Juan, and Wayne counties.

Moab Clinic Aims to Open in January 2027

The Moab clinic hopes to open in January 2027 inside the Moab Free Health Clinic’s building located on 200 South, according to Thompson. Initial operating hours will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Two Rivers is renting the space from the Free Health Clinic until its own permanent building is ready, noted Kate Jagla, the Free Health Clinic’s executive director. At opening, the site will offer primary medical care and limited dental services. Behavioral health, substance use treatment, and expanded dental options will be introduced later, though the press release does not specify a start date for those additions. The permanent location is designed to house five exam rooms, two behavioral health spaces, and at least two dental treatment rooms, with expectations to serve over 1,200 new patients each year.

Insurance Policies and Sliding Fee Scales

The clinic will accept all types of insurance, including private plans, Medicaid, and Medicare, alongside uninsured individuals, according to Thompson. Patients with lower incomes can utilize a sliding fee scale, which starts at $25 for an office visit. This discount applies to households with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty line, a threshold set at $31,920 for a single person and $66,000 for a family of four in 2026. Eligible patients must provide proof of income for each household member. A certified marketplace assister will be available to help individuals enroll in insurance. Thompson noted that paperwork is required, but identification is not, and no one will be denied service. Bilingual staff and phone interpreter services will also be provided.

Coexistence With the Moab Free Health Clinic

While sharing a building initially, Two Rivers Community Health and the Moab Free Health Clinic will operate under different financial models, according to Jagla. The Free Health Clinic continues to provide care at no cost to uninsured or underinsured individuals, relying on community support, volunteer providers, and university partnerships without utilizing insurance or sliding fee scales. In contrast, Two Rivers serves all community members with fees adjusted by income. CEO Cameron Willford stated in the press release that the new clinic is designed to complement existing care in Moab through established relationships with Moab Regional Hospital and the Moab Free Health Clinic, aiming to eliminate cost, transportation, and distance as barriers to healthcare access.
