Immigration officials halt mosque donation scheme in Bandarlampung.

Two Pakistani citizens have been apprehended in Bandarlampung on suspicion of illicitly soliciting donations from local mosques, according to immigration authorities. The pair allegedly violated the terms of their visas by engaging in unauthorized fundraising activities.

Key Development

Said Ismail, head of the Class I TPI Bandarlampung Immigration Office, stated that the two individuals were taken into custody due to suspicions of illegally collecting funds through mosque donations throughout Bandarlampung. He stated the pair arrived in Lampung province in June 2025 using visit visas, having previously been in Jakarta.

According to Ismail, “They came to Bandarlampung, soliciting donations from mosque to mosque, claiming the funds were intended for their home country.” Immigration officials are currently investigating their motives and any potential networks involved.

Investigation Details

Initial inquiries revealed that the two foreign nationals lacked any local sponsors or guarantors. “During the investigation, no one has claimed to be a sponsor. They came alone, and there is no representative who is responsible,” Ismail explained.

Intelligence records indicate the individuals collected approximately Rp3 million (US$184.52) and allegedly sent it abroad. To date, there have been no public reports of financial losses resulting from their activities.

The two Pakistani nationals are now facing deportation for allegedly violating their stay permits, as they reportedly entered the country using business visas but engaged in fundraising. The U.S. State Department warns that engaging in activities inconsistent with a visa status can lead to deportation U.S. State Department 2023.

Immigration Office Appeal

Ismail urged the public to report any foreign nationals soliciting funds without proper identification or official authorization from relevant authorities. “If foreigners are seen asking for donations without valid documents or a clear sponsor, it is crucial to report them at once to prevent financial losses within the community,” he stated.
